2023 Alberta Rockies

Cover: A beautiful evening in Canmore as the sun illuminates the Bow Valley before setting behind the peaks for the night.

January

A frosty evening along the Bow River as Castle Mountain stands tall and proud with a fresh skirt of snow.

February

The view from the top of the ‘Standish’ chairlift at Banff Sunshine Meadows Ski Resort. I don’t know if it’s the best snow in Canada, or the firmness of ski bindings, or the immaculate views- but this is a special place.

March

Some of the things I “<3” most… mountains, ice formations, and the start of spring. This photo from an afternoon spent exploring around Canmore has all of them.

April

A rare moment of calm at Bow Lake, one of my favorite places to visit on the Icefields Parkway. It’s a place that is always so beautiful despite its typical windy welcome.

May

I love this time of year when the wildflowers bloom, decorating the landscape in a myriad of color. I found this vibrant group of flowers along the Three Sisters Creek in Canmore.

June

I wanted a different perspective of Moraine Lake, something that would show just how incredible it is. So, I scrambled my way to the bottom of the rockpile and used the rocks in the water as the foreground for the quintessential Moraine sunrise.

July

The search for wildflowers continued but this time I found myself exploring Cavell Meadows in Jasper National Park where the wildflowers were plentiful.

August

Upper Kananaskis Lake, in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, is one of my favourite places on earth. It is a place where I can relax while exploring. This picture, from a lesser-known side of Upper K, would be perfect if it was scratch and sniff because the fresh pine smell was amazing this day.

September

A long exposure image of Mount Kidd being reflected in Wedge Pond. This place is easily one of my favourite spots to visit in the fall when fall colors blend with snowfall.

October

A lone larch tree stands fiercely at the top of the tree line in Larch Valley. This photo serves as a great reminder of the weather at this time of year: moments before it was sunny and the fresh snow had just melted, but only minutes away from a much more significant whiteout.

November

Is there anything more unbelievable than northern lights dancing above the mountains? No. Can a picture do this night justice? Never. A ribbon of Aurora Borealis appears to connect Mount Lorette to the sky as they move through the night.

December

A bright, calm, and rejuvenating morning spent walking around Tunnel Mountain as the sun wakes Banff up to a fresh snowfall.
